The immediate challenge with this commission was trying to fill a large wall space that measured 14' x 17'. The house already had a Prairie Style motif and suggestions of Frank Lloyd Wright influences. There were dominating areas of stone work on the exterior façade and the interior fireplace across from the wall. Local pine was used extensively on the floors, wall and cabinetry. The client requested the inclusion of a sunrise coming over the distant mountains.

I decided to incorporate as many of these elements as I could. They sent me leftover pieces of the pine floorong that I used as the background for some of the glass work. I made castings of stone to texture the blue glass then forged steel bars to make the outline frames. Some people see the blue as mountains, some see a reclining nude. I also incorporated a re-purposed metal gear and farmers scythe for visual texture. The downward “V’s” mimics the Frank Lloyd Wright motifs while evoking a Native American feel.
